Small business and Fortune 500 companies all over the globe have brought 3d printing in house to speed up the time to market for their newest product inventions, and ThreeD Materials will be covering some of the more interesting projects it comes across in a new series called "Fast to Market".
Our initial showcase involves the world of autonomous underwater vehicles. Kraken Sonar Inc. is a marine technology company engaged in the design, development and marketing of advanced sonar and acoustic velocity sensors for Unmanned Underwater Vehicles used in military and commercial applications. When they needed to market a new product in time for their next trade show, the lead time and production capacity of their traditional manufacturing methods wouldn't suffice. They turned to Axis Prototypes, a Montreal based firm specializing in high end SLA 3d printing.
“The lead time was the biggest saving,” said Kraken’s marketing manager Glenda Leyte told Marine Technology News. “Less than two weeks, which is impressive since Axis Prototypes had to print our large volume parts and complete all the finishing and painting.”
