Eric Schmidt, the Executive Chairman of Google's parent company, Alphabet, took time during the company's annual shareholder meeting this week to mention the technology products he believes will have the most profound impact on people's lives in the next five to ten years.
They include driverless cars, smartphones that monitor all aspects of personal health, plant based meat, machine learning in education, virtual reality and 3d printed buildings.
"Imagine if we can get the cost of those buildings down by a factor of 3 or 4 or 5 using new materials and allow you to remodel them very quickly and things like that," he said. "There are people working on this."
There are multiple projects occurring around the world, including in Amsterdam, Dubai, New York and other global hubs, which provide insight into the way structures will be built using 3d printing.
Schmidt said the products he believes in weren't necessarily ones that Alphabet is currently involved with, however it's subsidiary X is uniquely qualified to make his predictions become reality.
