Google Tango and Lenovo Releasing Augmented Reality Phone

Posted by 3DPrint360 Staff on

Lenovo is stepping up its game by introducing AR (Augmented Reality). The company became the first mobile phone brand to feature Google’s Project Tango 3D Scanning technology, when they announced the Phab 2 Pro at last week's Tech World 2016.

So what is AR you ask?

The phone carries special software and a set of sensors that are used to map your surroundings in 3D, making them more realistic, and making you feel more like James Bond.

Google Tango Phab Pro 3D Scanning

The attendees of last week’s Tech World 2016 in San Francisco were lucky enough to get a glimpse of the Phab 2 Pro, and according to Google’s Engineer Director, Johnny Lee, “Tango enables our devices to sense physical motion and space and, as a result, has the power to change how we interact with our surroundings.”

So how is this different than other smart phones? The new era of AR technology uses motion detection, depth sensors, and area learning technology, enabling the user to project a true-to-size virtual image outside of the mobile device, thanks to Project Tango’s 3D scanning capability.

The announcement coincides with a hundred Tango-ready applications that are available for download in Google Playstore, and the new AR equipped phone will be available in September for $499.
