One of the largest retailers in the world is trying its hand at 3d printed Christmas ornaments in a bid to test the technology for future use.
It's happening in Ontario, Canada, where customers can walk into their local Wal-Mart store, customize their ornaments the way they like, and within 8 hours, their very own Christmas tree decoration will be available.
The production will be done off site by the team at 3DMakeable, a Canadian 3d printing company, and the cost for the ornaments is $10.
"Along with offering customizable ornaments at a reasonable price, the pilot program is intended to provide information about scaling demand for both Walmart and 3DMakeable," writes John Newman at Rapid Ready Tech, which broke this story. "The program will also measure how interested the public is in 3D printed products, relying on sales numbers to tell the story rather than surveys."
