Printstrike Offering 3D Prints of Kobe, Jordan, Rooney and Other Athletes

A 3d printing startup based in Amsterdam wants to know if you have a favorite athlete.  If you do, they want to 3d print a figurine of that athlete for you and ship it out for a fee.
Kobe Bryant, Neymar, Wayne Rooney and Kevin Garnett are all available in 3d printable form from Printstrike, which is currently offering memorabilia for dozens of players in multiple sports.
"Printstrike allows everyone to get his idol copy figure in full color. Whenever you are a fan of a football player or a racing driver, you have a chance to find his 'hard copy' on our website," the company says on its website. "Figures are made on industrial size 3D printers, which ensure the highest quality. Models are made out of full color sandstone material, which is perfect for realistic detailing. Our figures collection is constantly growing with more teams and players – so more fans can enjoy our products."

It's unclear whether Printstrike has official licensing agreements from the players - including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Lionel Messi and others - however it's highly unlikely considering the high profile nature of these athletes and the lack of marketing around these products from their teams.
The collection of basketball players, race car drivers and soccer stars available range in price from near $50 to almost $200.
3d printing
The promise of licensed 3d printable toys and apparel has been around for a while now, but the IP holders, distributors and manufacturers have yet to crack the code on success.
Earlier this year, South Park licensed it's famous set of characters for 3d printing and there are other examples, including a well publicized partnership between Hasbro and Shapeways. That deal came to fruition years ago and there has been little to no information released by the toy company or manufacturer on success thus far, leaving doubt about the viability of 3d printed toys in the near future.
